Why I Built Divot

Hello, I'm Chris — a mid-handicap golfer, a Marine vet, and a solo iOS developer. I've been playing for about five years, trying like all of us to get better with whatever practice time I had. Much like working out, I wanted to track my practice so I could see progress on the range and compare it to the results on the course.

The issue was I had drills and routines from all over the place — from my coach, from YouTube, from blogs, from everywhere. I tried tracking them in a spreadsheet. Fine at my desk, useless on the range. Between shots I'd open my phone, scroll around looking for the drill I was supposed to be doing, lose my place, and end up just hitting balls without a plan.

I tried some of the practice apps already out there. None of them let me bring my own drills with me. Some were too complicated, some were too expensive, and none of them got out of my way while I practiced.

So I built what I wanted — a simplified but customizable practice app that lets me log shots without distracting me from what actually matters: the practice itself.
